FOLK: OPEN CALL
Juice Exhibition 2026

We are thrilled to announce our next studio exhibition, 'FOLK', and we want your unique interpretation of what that word means. Whether you find inspiration in ancient folklore and tradition, the simplicity of everyday people, the future of folk culture, or the rhythm of traditional music and dance, folk in video games or technology or any other direction this theme is yours to shape. We welcome all creative directions and mediums for this exhibition.

  • Submission limit: 1 piece per artist (we will accept multi-part works)

  • Mediums & formats: This is primarily a wall art exhibition, but we welcome creative exceptions.

    • Sound/video and multimedia works: Audio-visual submissions are welcome, but artworks must be provided with all necessary playback equipment (e.g., media players, screens, tablets, headphones, or directional speakers etc).

    • 3D work, sculpture and ceramics: The pop-up space we use will have a theatre event on one day during the exhibition run. So we are limited by works in the middle of the space - likely placing around the edge or easily moveable works in the centre. Please add notes on the form is there is anything we should be aware of regards this.

  • Sizing: Artwork can be up to 1.5 meters in any dimension. However, due to gallery space layout, smaller works are highly encouraged and will allow us to showcase a wider variety of voices.

  • Sales and commission: A 20% commission will be taken on all artwork sold during the exhibition. We operate as a not for profit, so this commission is directly reinvested into supporting Juice Studios work and next year's open-call exhibition.

  • You can submit new or existing work.

  • Branding/promotional materials will be made for the exhibition in coming weeks.

Payments and commission:

Submissions are free

Payment for any sales of work made in the month following the exhibition.

There is no showing fee, but any sale of work will be subject to 20% commission.

Terms & Conditions for Submissions & Exhibition

1. General & Eligibility

1.1. This open call is organised by Juice Studios, located at 61A Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TG ("the Organiser").

1.2. Participation is open to visual artists, printmakers, illustrators, makers, musicians, and performers, subject to the selection process.

1.3. Submissions must engage with themes of folklore, myth, legend, ritual, cultural traditions, or heritage.

1.4. AI Policy: AI-generated artwork or content is strictly not permitted. All submissions must be original works created by the artist.

2. Submission Process

2.1. Artists may submit up 1 original works per submission.

2.2. Submissions must be made by the stated deadline: 24th August. Submissions received after this time will not be considered.

2.3. Submitting an application is free of charge. If selected, participation in the exhibition is also free.

3. Selection & Notification

3.1. Selection of works will be carried out by a selection of Juice Studios resident artists.

3.2. All applicants will be notified of the outcome via email following the deadline.

3.3. The decision of the curatorial team is final, and feedback on individual unselected submissions may not always be possible due to the volume of applications.

4. Delivery, Framing & Display Requirements

4.1. Selected artists are responsible for the safe delivery and collection of their artwork to/from Juice Studios (61A Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TG) by the agreed key dates.

4.2. All 2D visual works must be supplied ready to hang/display (e.g., framed, mounted, or fitted with strings or hooks)

4.3. Juice Studios reserves the right to decline displaying any artwork delivered in a condition deemed unsafe, damaged, or unsuitable for installation.

5. Sales & Commission

5.1. Exhibition Sales: Juice Studios will take a 20% commission on all original artworks, prints, zines, and products sold during the exhibition sales. The artist receives 80% of the sale price..

5.2. Payouts for sold works will be processed via bank transfer within in the month following the close of the exhibition.

6. Insurance & Liability

6.1. Artists retain full ownership and intellectual property rights of their work at all times.

6.2. While Juice Studios takes all reasonable care in handling, displaying, and safeguarding submitted works, artworks are submitted, transported, and exhibited at the artist’s own risk.

6.3. Juice Studios does not provide all-risks insurance for individual artworks against accidental damage, theft, or loss. Artists are strongly advised to hold their own insurance cover if desired.

7. Marketing, Media & Promotion

7.1. By submitting work, selected artists grant Juice Studios permission to use high-resolution images of their artwork, bio, and press photos for promotional purposes (including website, social media, press releases, digital/printed flyers, and archive documentation).

7.2. Full credit will be given to the artist whenever their work is featured in promotional materials.

8. Unsold Work & Collection

8.1. All unsold artworks must be collected by the artist (or an authorised representative) on the designated collection dates post-exhibition.

8.2. Works left uncollected after 30 days following the final collection date, without prior written agreement, may be subject to a storage fee or disposed of at the Organiser's discretion.

9. Agreement

By submitting an application to the Folk Exhibition Call Out, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these Terms & Conditions.
