Funded Micro-residencies
(screen print)

Hello!

Are you an artist, illustrator, maker, recent graduate or ‘bedroom artist’ in Hull who has outgrown introductory courses but lacks the space or equipment to take your work to the next level?

Juice Studios is offering 8 funded, 6-month micro-residencies designed specifically for early-to-mid-career creatives looking to scale their work, explore commercial viability, and join a vibrant creative ecosystem.

Situated in the heart of Hull’s Fruit Market, Juice Studios provides a workspace and a screen print studio where you can move from isolated practice into a supportive peer network. Whether your goal is fine art editions or developing products, merchandise, and packaging, this residency provides the bridge to build a long-term career in the creative industries.

FAQs

  • This residency funds a membership to our studio for a 6-month period running from October 2026 to March 2027. It acts as a bridge to help you scale your artistic practice, access professional printmaking equipment, and transition into the local creative economy without immediate financial pressure.

  • Applicants must have some baseline background in arts education -whether that is a formal university qualification, a college course, or structured learning (such as courses at Feral Art School or similar). This program is tailored for early-to-mid-career artists who already know the basics of their craft but need professional infrastructure to scale up.

  • No. Juice Studios has 13 permanent, private studios, but these are currently fully occupied by our long-term residents. As a micro-resident, you are being funded for keyholder access to our shared workspaces and specialist print room.

  • While you don’t get fixed space, when you’re in we have shared desks you can use. Our print equipment is also used on a booking system, so you know you’ll have access to it when you’re in.
This does mean you will pack down your workspace at the end of your session so the next artist can use it. (although often there is space to leave things to dry etc).

  • While you don't have a dedicated room or fixed desk, we don't expect you to cart heavy screens and wet prints across Hull every day! We have screens you can use. And you will be allocated dedicated on-site storage space within the print room for your work and supplies. Additionally, you will have full access to our commercial drying racks while your work is drying.

  • The funding is designed to get you utilising our specialist screen print room. This is a facility equipped with print tables and exposure units up to A1+ size. We also have a t-shirt press and textile table. We also have a relief press available for block printing and intaglio work.

  • No. The grant fully subsidises your 24/7 keyholder access, equipment usage, exhibition space, market opportunities, and membership. However, artists must provide their own raw consumables and print materials (paper, specialised inks, blank merchandise, fabric, etc.). To make this easier, we stock a range of supplies in our on-site materials shop which you can purchase as you go.

  • To ensure an active, and vibrant peer network where artists are genuinely collaborating and learning from one another, there is a minimum expectation that you come into the studio at least 3 times a month.

  • There is no strict maximum hourly limit, but a "fair use" policy is expected. Because this funding brings 8 residents into the studio simultaneously to build a vibrant community, it is essential that everyone has equal access to the specialist facilities.

While we want you to use the studio as much as possible to scale your work, this operates on mutual respect - meaning no single artist should hog a specific print table, screen bed, or exposure unit day in, day out. To keep things fair and moving smoothly for everyone, all sessions must be booked in advance through our online booking system. If you have a massive commercial run or a tight exhibition deadline that requires intensive studio time, just chat with the Studio Manager in advance so we can help you plan it out without disrupting your fellow residents.

  • Absolutely not. "Early-to-mid-career" refers to the stage of your artistic practice, not your age. We welcome applications from creatives of any age or background.

    For us, this stage means:

    • You are past the beginner phase and already have some background in arts education (whether that was a university degree, a college course, or structured classes like those at Feral Art School).

    • You have outgrown your kitchen table or "bedroom studio" but lack the capital or knowledge to invest in professional, equipment independently.

    • You are ready to move your existing practice from an isolated hobby or entry-level setup into a professional, commercial, or exhibition-ready scale.

Whether you are 21, 41, or 61, if your practice is at a turning point where professional infrastructure, technical support, and a peer community will help you scale up, this residency is for you.
